2 curlew sandpipers, 1 pectoral sandpiper, 9 red necked stints and 40+ bar-tailed godwits were the highlights of a brief visit this evening.

Cheers. Yeah, it wasn't great conditions battling the wind. Ellesmere is also drying up, the birds were all at the second pond, which is now just a puddle. Suspect Yarr's will be even more popular soon!

Nice conditions today at end of Wolfes Road and Embankment Rd. No sign of the little stint at either, but Hudsonian godwits seen at the ponded area just adjacent to the Wolfes Road carpark. Also present there was a common tern roosting with bar-tailed godwit.
No stints at all seen, around 30 wrybill and 20 banded dotterel.

Cheers,

Covered a lot of ground today at Embankment in both directions.

300+ Wrybill
150+ Banded Dotterel
49 bar Tailed Godwit
2x Red Knot
8 Turnstones
9 Red necked Stint
+ the usual suspects

Birds all very scattered evenly across the entire area but Wrybill everywhere! Great to see!

However the highlight was Wolfes Road! Bumped into Greg McKenzie there and we found a bumper crop of migrants.

2x Curlew Sandpiper
2x Pectoral Sandpiper
2x Red Knot
1x Little Tern
15+ Red Necked Stints
1x Hudsonian Godwit
3x Black Tailed Godwits
60+ Bar tailed Godwits
40+ Wrybill
20+Banded Dotterel
+ The usual Suspects

A few crappy pics attached. Think Greg managed a good flight shot of the 3 Black Tails so check facebook NZ birders page soon :)

Here are the three Black-tailed Godwits that Adam mentioned above. They are quite distant so they have been severly cropped and then sharpened to try and bring out some detail ;)

Sadly, I have to also confess that I mucked up my report on e-bird when I reported sighting the 'White Tern (Little)' when t should have been the 'Little Tern'. I'm sorry for any confusion and/or excitement this lapse my have caused. I'm also somewhat embarrased to have made this mistake.
