Ken George photographed 2 Rainbow Lorikeets in the grounds of the Waitara Holiday Park (New Plymouth) and the adjacent reserve at the Waitara River mouth on 3rd and 4th December. He reports via eBird: "The lorikeets were feeding in the pohutukawa trees immediately adjacent to the holiday park entrance gates, and the rosellas feeding in the grass both in the campground and the reserve next door. Same observations on both 3 and 4 December, same birds present."

I have since been told they are captive birds that the owner allows out 'so they can fly around'.

I reported these birds to MPI a few weeks ago and was informed that someone would be going out to confirm and capture them...so hope the owners keep them locked up if they don't want to lose them!
