A long time since I've seen any reports from the Waipara River mouth and even longer since I last visited. At the moment there is no river, but still some large pools behind the shingle bank. On Friday 7th February, it was good to see a black-fronted dotterel, and then a pair on the following day. Other birds were hundreds of swallows, a couple of caspian terns, black-fronted terns, gulls, shags, a pair of mute swans and a small group of banded dotterel including juveniles.
