Bird Quiz #1

Postby Michael » Wed Apr 27, 2016 1:23 pm

Hello and welcome to the young birders bird quizzes,
I should point out that this is for all ages, but I'd like to ask of our more mature bird enthusiasts to hold off till the young ones have a go.
As my WiFi is down, I cannot start with a picture, so well begin with a few notes based on a specific species. Some of these notes may help you identify the bird, some may be as useless as feathers in a pit of lava.

Here we go!

Walk to Miranda Hide from Centre

Small passerine just flew over track.Brown rump, with no obvious wing bars. Outer primaries dark. Brighter on head than body, though poor lighting prevented proper inspection of colour. Call a simple 'tink'. Some streaking on breast. White on edges of tail, black middle. Slightly forked tail. Other birds calling from in weeds.

So what was that? This is a fairly common bird who most of you should have met before.
