Weka in the garden, Whakatane

Postby erikforsyth » Sat Aug 18, 2018 7:23 pm

Hi all

just added Weka to my garden list today! went out this morning and was surprised to see a Weka running through the ferns and calling loudly. I tried unsuccessfully to catch it in order to release in across the road into Mokoroa Bush. When I returned from the shops a few hours later it was gone.

I have had NZ Kaka, NZ Falcon and heard Northern Brown Kiwi calling at night from Mokoroa Bush Reserve 150m away. 44 species so far!

Best wishes

Nice Erik. The increase in the eastern Bay has been remarkable. Wonder how far back inland the expansion has been or whether its just along the coastal strip ...
Cheers

Hi Tim

Iv'e heard birds calling, in forest, a kilometer or so south of Wainui Road and would imagine they are further inland.
