Katydid eating Aphids

Not seen them eat Aphids before!

Its got a good food source there. I used to see them quite a lot on a manuka (they stood out) but I haven't seen them for a few years now.

For some reason I assumed they were vegetarian.

The limited information sources on the native species generally just say they feed on "foliage", so this would seem to be a pretty unusual observation. Though apparently there are predatory members of the family (Tettigoniidae).

Sure they are not 'milking' the sugars produced by the aphids?
Was told long time back about ants.. think it was, milking aphids...so as with lot things like this... I wiped some up and tasted them...yep strong with a very nectureish/ honey flavour.
