Close to Miranda (eBird Location: Hauraki Rail Trail - East Piako flood plains) one great glossy ibis among the spoonbills.
Also, 7 cattle egrets were here last Friday (but not today).

With most viewing having to be done from the roadside, but with so much water and no sun, there was excellent viewing with no heat haze. This resulted in great views of the G t Tattler, Broad-b sandpiper, Curlew Sandpiper, Red-n Stint, Sharpies and Pectoral Sandpiper.
Sadly the trappers had no luck with catching any P G P's.

Cheers, Grahame

Tattler and Broad-billed in front of the Godwit hide at high tide. Heat haze still a big problem though.

In lovely late light and reduced haze between 6.30 and 8pm last evening the Broad-billed and Tattler were both close to the Godwit hide in a group of several hundred Wrybill. A F.E.Curlew was further away over by the spit beyond the Godwits and Knots.

1 Pectoral and 3 Sharptail sands and Stint were on the Stilt ponds with another big group of Wrybill and about 50 or so bandies. The Pec was only visible from the road not from the Stilt Hide

Not many PGP yesterday at Miranda but when I left Piako at 4.30 pm [still 1.5 hours before high] there were 61 of them there---they seem to have temporarily moved there

Tattler showing well in front of Godwit hide along with 26 P G P's and 3 Turnstone. Two Sharpies on the stilt ponds, plus the Red-necked Stint and Curlew Sandpiper. The Pectoral and Broad-billed were both doing a good job of hiding for almost 4 hours

The visitors were all still at Miranda this afternoon on the stilt pond between 1200 and 1600. G T Tattler, Broad-b Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, Curlew Sandpiper, 2 Red-n Stints and 4 Sharpies. However, no sign of the reported 8 F E Curlew/Whimbrel.

Today, Wednesday ,the 3 Far Eastern Curlew were at Shelly Beach Rd at 243p, 2 hours after the 12:45p 3.5 metre high tide (LINZ Rocky Point) until 330p. They were not there from 12-12:30 but 49 PAcific Golden Plover were but was unable to see any that were satellite tagged. Should someone find one with a tag please take a photo and/or post it. The 3 Far Eastern Curlew and 5 Whimbrel were seen at Shelly beach on Monday 10:30a-11:05a, on a 11:25/3.5metre tide which did flood the paddock leaving mostly stilts, heron and 5 cattle egrets on posts, ducks and caspian terns on the muddy breached opening from the river. 1FECurlew returned 11:27 with 65 PGP at 12:45, 85% flooded.

Absolutely nothing at Miranda itself yesterday, a total of 10 species after half an hour! Looks like the Shelly Beach Road site is the place to be! Admittedly the tide was wrong, but no godwits, sandpipers, knot, wrybill, or much of anything else - just Stilts! I'm assuming they have mostly migrated.
