Northern Shoveler at Bromley Oxidation Ponds

Postby Adam C » Fri Apr 26, 2019 5:18 pm

Hi all. Northern Shoveler present at Christchurch, Bromley Oxidation ponds this afternoon.
It was in the North/east corner by the posts where the shags normally roost. It was reasonably close when first viewed but by the time Jack and I got back with scope and phone it was right at the back so photos are pretty crappy but hopefully ID it well enough!

Hope it sticks around for a bit! What I didn't look for was a female with it. Looking at my pics there does seem to be a female with it consistently. Prob just coinsidence but worth a look if anyone locks on to it over the next couple of days.

Have just spotted him in the same spot! He's just hanging around with the other shovelers

Currently present in the same spot. Hanging out between the northern end of the first pond on the left from New Brighton and the island. Along with a female friend. (Suspect it’s just an Aussie shoveler female, doesn’t look conclusively Northern anyway) will upload photos later. If trying to get close suggest using car as a blind. Let me within 20m

It might be the same bird that was spotted in Miranda in the Firth of Thames a while back....
