Hauraki Gulf pelagics

Postby DLCallahan » Sat Jul 20, 2019 11:10 pm

Hi – I hope this is the right place to post such a request, but I'll be visiting NZ in November and was hoping to be able to get out from Auckland to see NZ Storm-petrel, among others, when staying in Auckland.

I'll be staying in Auckland between (Weds-Sat) 27-30 November but initial researches seem to show that there aren't any pelagics running on those dates. Does anyone know of any likely options?

Thanks
David

Hi David, if none are scheduled you could try booking one yourself and advertising it here for numbers. Try contacting Assassin or Norma Jean charter to start. Can always cancel if numbers aren't looking good.

Otherwise you could try a whale watch tour and hope for the best (or take the ferry to Great Barrier and back).

I could be a starter for the trip if it's on a Saturday. Although I could also be tempted to throw a sickie if it was a weekday.

Thanks! I've got a bit of free time to do some research now, so I'll post on here if I make any headway. D

Pretty sure Brett sold Assassin, so no longer an option. Best to contact the Northern NZ Seabird Trust. https://www.nzseabirdtrust.com/pelagic-trips If they don't have a trip listed they might pull one together if there is enough interest.
