Possible sighting of 2 Far Eastern Curlew at Petone, Wellington

Postby Peter Hodge » Sat Nov 09, 2019 8:16 am

Hi folks. I'm an OSNZ regional recorder for Wellington, and an eBird reviewer. I've just seen a report of two Far-Eastern Curlews at the eastern end of Petone beach, Wellington, from 5 Nov. The sighting was flagged up by eBird's review filter, so is not confirmed and therefore publicly notified on eBird.

Anyone else seen these birds? According to eBird, there are two previous sightings of FEC, one at Hutt Estuary in March 2013, and another at Pauatahanui Inlet in Oct 2005.

Regards,
Peter

One bar-tailed godwit was sighted there recently. It's most likely that a second one joined it.

Yes, that could be right. I contacted the person who made the observation and they decided to delete the sighting.

Three Bar-tailed Godwits were photographed on the lower Hutt River yesterday by Steve Wass.
