The website where you can check on these birds is here: http://behavioural-ecology.orn.mpg.de:3838/NZ2019_BTGO/
It will automatically show the last 10 days, but you can change that with the cog icon in the right-hand corner. The latest position for each bird is shown as a pulsing dot - click on the dots and it will give the details of who, when and what quality the record is. You can select just a bird of interest via the cog also. Quality is 3 = best, letters = uncertain or bad. If you want to look for a bird in the field, just select the good positions (again, via the cog).Times are local, but there is a 5-h delay in uploading, so if you're itching to see where a bird is this morning, wait until the afternoon... The tags are solar, so night-time flights appear as straight lines and the bird will appear when the sun comes up.
When you find a bird, let us know!
Thanks, Phil

Fantastic!!

Hey Phil,
That's web page to follow. Many thanks for sharing it. We'll certainly be looking out for tagged birds.

Re: Sat-tagged godwits
that's such a great initiative Phil. Thanks for putting it out. That wandering bird is one mixed-up godwit kid...are there several at Miranda cos you haven't included that site in the list?

Re: Sat-tagged godwits
The wandering ones are the intelligent ones! We tagged 7 birds at Miranda so I only mentioned the ones that have moved.

Canterbury people - blink and you miss it! A bird from the Ohau estuary in the Horowhenua was seemingly at Lake Ellesmere for a couple of hours yesterday morning before heading onwards to Otago. Karitane people can pop out to check on it for us...

Re: Sat-tagged godwits 4RBWB
Just now at Ellesmere Lake entered via Wolfe Road. She was feeding non stop with 2 other bar-tailed godwits. A group of 4 I think. I spent over an hour watching another 5 godwits feeding along the water tide and coming back in I put my camera up to see the tagged bird along further. So exciting.Possibly the only godwits present here today.[/img]
