Shore Plover Mangawhai Estuary

Postby Richard Fenner » Fri Jan 17, 2020 10:07 am

There was a single adult Shore Plover on the estuary this morning about 100m upstream from the Lincoln St Reserve feeding very close to the shoreline. As far as I can tell it had an orange band above a turquoise/teal coloured one on it's left leg and a single orange one on it's right leg. I'll double check that from photos when I get a chance.

On closer inspection of photos it looks like Orange band over red on right leg and red band over green on left leg. I'd be interested to know where it's come from.

Shore plover RG-OR was hand-reared in captivity at Pukaha National Wildlife Centre, and released onto Motutapu in April 2019. He has been seen on the island fairly regularly since then, but is obviously out and about exploring the region now!
