Hi
Can anyone help ID the bird(s) in the attached sound recording.
It was made 02/05/20 in the McElroy Scenic Reserve just south of Warkworth, North Island at about 5am.
I have no idea what it is; can anyone ID it?
Thanks
Martin

Re: Help ID nocturnal birds calls
Sorry, I am new to this forum - I thought that I had attached the sound file.
I checked the 'Help' pages here and it says:
"Attachment permissions are granted on a per forum, per group, or per user basis. The board administrator may not have allowed attachments to be added for the specific forum you are posting in, or perhaps only certain groups can post attachments. Contact the board administrator if you are unsure about why you are unable to add attachments."
so that may be why there isn't a file!
I will have another go.

I think it was because you were a new poster that it doesn’t allow you to share an attached file such as that off the bat maybe? (He says not knowing...)
That time it has worked however. And your bird is a Morepork/Ruru doing the ‘cree’ call.

Two Ruru with the mor...mor...morepork at the end.
Very nice recording.
What did you record it on?

Samsung Galaxy S10 - hand held.
The birds were close, the forest was quiet and the volume has been boosted in audacity for the final clip.
Pleased with the result though; it is possible to get pretty good results with the modern mobile phone.

Yes, nice recording
As David guessed, attachments are not allowed in first posts. This is to help prevent some of the dodgy stuff moderators have to sift through.

Re: Help ID nocturnal birds calls
That is brilliant, as it has all four of the main calls of Morepork - the scree, weoh, morepork and the ro-ro-ro of two birds communicating. Awesome.
