Tūīs DO imitate other birds.
133 birds on my life list since 17 June 2020, latest bird Common Tern.
93 birds on my 2024 year list as of 6:50pm 13 January, latest bird Indian Peafowl.

15 y/o birder from the Waimak and Paradise Shelduck campaigner: facebook.com/paradiseshelduck.

I'd go for skylark.
I often hear them here on the Kaikoura peninsula at night.
And sure Tui are great imitators (here's one imitating a falcon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_5ps5bJR30), but unless you know you have tui nearby, suspect skylark.
The most common birds I hear at night here are spurwing plover, followed by oyster catcher.

While Tui are great mimics, I think the bird in the youtube video is giving an alarm call rather than a falcon imitation. Not to say that they wouldn't imitate a falcon though.

How many times have you heard it? I was completely stumped with a nocturnal recording of a high-pitched whistling sound that I though might be a mustelid. It transpired it was a morepork, probably mating!
