This population has been identified as Pachyptila macgillivrayi, essentially on genetics. The genetic distance between these two populations is similar to that between Salvin's and Antarctic Prions and shows much greater differences than the far more distant populations of Broad-billed Prions from the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean populations. This is the opposite of what I'd expect so perhaps not the last word on this subject.
