Cape Barren Goose, Motueka

Postby Michael Szabo » Tue Nov 22, 2022 7:25 pm

Cape Barren Goose seen at Motueka-cemetery estuary this morning by Chris Brobin, reported via eBird with photos: https://ebird.org/checklist/S122812559

He also just added this comment via Facebook: "I didn't realize it was fairly rare until I got home. I also saw two more on the straight trail that goes by the Rec Center on the way back to town. I noticed on ebird that this area has most of the sightings in the Tasman Region.
I've only lived in New Zealand for three weeks so I'm still feeling my way around."

An Aussie who lives along the sports fields brought them over from Australia a few years ago. They can always be seen at the back of the fields and the adjacent paddocks.

Brought them from Australia when they are already in captivity in plenty of places in NZ? Hopefully that is unlikely.
