DOC could lose another 68 roles in effort to cut costs - RNZ

Post by Michael Szabo »

RNZ reports: "A previous round of cuts saw 130 roles proposed to go in April last year, to meet the government's demand for a 6.5 percent reduction in spending. The Department of Conservation could lose another 68 roles in effort to cut costs."

Losing jobs, but no one will lose their jobs. Lot's of vacant positions. I guess some demotions and side shuffles. All typically confusing, which is probably the whole point. Nothing to see here. Hey, look over there, a new road.

DOC is being required to pile on a bigger workload to the restructured new roles with a longer list of responsibilities in order to meet the government's requirement to cut 6.5% from DOC's budget. Conservation expertise and experience is also likely to be lost in the process as people leave to escape the constant cutting and restructuring (as some I know have already done). Yet at the same time the Finance Minister just got a $7500 a year pay rise: https://newsroom.co.nz/2025/05/13/cabin ... -pay-rise/
