New paper - drivers of gadfly petrel vagrancy

Post by Brendan T »

Really interesting paper on climate change and drivers of gadfly petrel vagrancy by Simon Gorta et al, titled "Environmental drivers of gadfly petrel vagrancy in the Southwest Pacific."

The paper can be found here behind a paywall:
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ibi.70027

Otherwise, see Simon's post in the Seabirds and Pelagics Australia Facebook page, where he offers to send you a PDF.

Without giving too much away on a public platform, since the paper is behind a paywall, it seems like neutral ENSO conditions increase vagrancy chances in a number of gadfly petrel species, if I'm reading it right. As a non-scientist, I struggled through some parts, but overall it was a really interesting read. As we seem to be coming into neutral ENSO conditions, it could be a great time to get out to sea.
