Bird ID Required

Postby Andrew Melville » Sun Jun 28, 2020 7:44 pm

This photo was taken on a visit to New Zealand in 2009.
I had thought it was a Wrybill but today I noticed one of the birds was banded.
This makes me consider it is a New Zealand Dotterel.
Trust someone can help,
Many Thanks,
Andrew Melville

Wrybills are tiny birds, easily able to cup one in your hands.
Most distinctive features are their grey colour with white belly, black band on breast when breeding.
And obviously the bent bill which gives them their name.
