Best Zealandia tracks

Post by ZionCooper »

Hi all,
Just wondering which Zealandia tracks are the best for wildlife photography.
Thanks, Zion.

If you have some early afternoon sun, and the takahe are on their usual patch of grass, you can take photos with them illuminated while the background bushes are still dark in the shadows. The kaka feeders also make for some easy subjects. Not too sure which of the tracks further into the valley would be best for photography though.

The kākā feeders are also worth visiting because they sometimes attract pāteke. In my experience, the only places within the bush where you have a greater chance of seeing a specific species of bird are the two stitchbird feeder sites, which commonly attract both stitchbirds and bellbirds. There is also often at least one approachable NI robin near the more easily accessible stitchbird feeder site (next to the lookout platform). In my experience, there is no consistently reliable place for seeing saddlebacks or whiteheads.
