Possible Glossy Ibis Raumati

Post by ledzep »

A gentleman at work has asked my advice on unusual birds he has seen over the weekend in Raumati. He has shown me a distant photo of a bird sitting in the top of a tree, long beak is distinctive (I'll post it when he sends it to me, bill seemed too long for WF Heron). Croaking calls. He reports 3 or 4 birds. Location is Leinster Av, off Poplar Ave in Raumati - there are lots of wet paddocks in the area. I showed him a few pictures and he said the Glossy Ibis was the closest - he has seen Ibis in Sydney.

Update - false alarm! Before you venture out in the cold a couple of photos attached. Pretty certain these are WF Heron, I can even see the white face and the yellowish bill. Good detail even from distant photos.
