Shining cuckoo

Last weekend had a friend inform me she had a shining cuckoo in her garden here in Blenheim. She said that she had one last year as well. Is this early?
Also saw a white heron in our wetland today which must be about time for it to return to Okarito. We also have good numbers of Barbary doves at the Wairau bar.
