Bit surprised there seems to be no interest in this bird?
No way I could get down there , but would enjoy it vicariously if anyone else tried to twitch it

This species has been seen before in the S Is. people are very busy this time of year and are probably also not wanting to expend carbon on fruitless trips to out of the way places like this, esp seeing the bird has moved on. it's a pretty good photo so that's enough, I would say.

i am on way to Karamea so stopped here to look. it possibly flew over my car west to east as i was driving towards Cape F near Carters Beach. Stopped as soon as safe to do so and walked back but a lot of scrub on side of road impeding view. i’ll look again on way back.

Good views at 17:30 in the paddock on the inland side of the Carters - Foulwind road. Actively feeding with a few White-faced Herons. Worth the trip from Chch!

Checked the area several times yesterday (04 Dec 2024) but there was no sign of the heron. Same story this morning (05 Dec 2024). It might be worthwhile checking the surrounding area as there is plenty of suitable habitat.
