While on the trail to the Kaitoke hot springs on Great Barrier I heard this call from the wetlands. I thought it sounded quite like a fernbird but i had no internet to check it. Comparing it now to recordings on xeno-canto I have my doubts.
Its my first week in NZ so I have a hard time even recognizing the most common birds, could someone please give me a second opinion?

Thanks! Might venture out there tomorrow at dawn to see if i can spot them, along with the bitterns. But glad to know I heard it correctly
