Harts Creek (Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere near Leeston)

Post by Nick Allen »

I bumped into someone working on the track along Harts Creek on Monday. They were about to put gravel down on the recently rebuilt walkway along the creek. Anyway an update for Canterbury birders and those from elsewhere who are or might be interested in such birds as bitterns, crakes and mute swans.

The intention is to make the walkway 1.5 m wide and suitable for mobility-impaired people to access the hide at the end of the track.

The boardwalk is currently a bit of a mess but there are plans to rebuild it, extend it out past the encroaching raupō and build a new hide.
