Saving the Albatross

Some, if not all, of you will be aware of the global initiative to save the the 19 of the 22 species of albatross that are currently threatened with extinction.

One of these, the Tristan Albatross breeds on Gough Island, where the young birds are eaten alive by killer mice. Gough Island is currently administered by the UK government. There is a scheme in the UK where anyone can start a petition on the 10 Downing street website, and someone has started a petition to get the UK government to eradicate the mice on Gough Island which are literally eating the albatross and other sea birds.

There have been job vacancies advertised for many months for scientist and assistant to work on aspects of the mouse eradication. I got the impression the eradication is already planned.

maybe, although the last i heard was that they were still researching the problem and the government hadn't actually committed funds for total eradication.
