Hi folks, the Cirl Buntings have made their annual reappearance at Victoria Park, CHCH, which is one of the easiest places in the country to see this elusive species.
2 days ago 1 male was feeding on roadside grass near the electric gate near the downslope entrance of the park; a second male was around the main carpark and toilet block (amongst a flock of House Sparrows and Chaffinches) and a pair were on the short grassy slope just before (downhill) from the cattle stop.
If you drive through Victoria Park's internal access road slowly you should see Cirl Buntings feeding on the immediate roadside or on lawns or grit paths close to the road.

Re: Cirl Buntings back at Victoria Park, CHCH
Have just been up to Victoria park This Morning and managed to see a pair of Cirl Buntings in the pine trees just behind the rangers station i then also saw another male feeding on the grass of the 19th war memorial with some Redpoll and Gold finches.
seems like a good spot, was pretty quiet apart from two people walking their pet goats...
