this bird appeared at the stanmore bay wetlands this afternoon at 3pm. i've seen white faced herons before and am assuming this is a juvenile one. am i right?

Hi Heather

Correct - juvenile white-faced heron, just fledged (note traces of down on crown). Another good image for NZ Birds Online, showing how ill-defined the white face is in juveniles.
