I saw these advertised in a magazine recently. Technology moves on, but doesn't seem that these digital devices are quite ready for birders yet. Reviews suggest they are good for the sports ground. Some attractive features, like being able to zoom from 0.8 to 25X, image stabilisation, and to record high def video of what you are watching in 2D or 3D. But battery only lasts 3 hours, and there is a turn-on delay which could be very annoying for a quick look at a bird. At $2000 the price is also a bit steep, but an area to watch as these devices will get cheaper and better over time. If someone buys one I'd love to have a play with it!

Re: Sony DEV-50 binoculars
On the topic of techey binos, I met a duck-shooter with a pair of Leica
bins like mine, but he could work out how far away was the object he was looking at.
I haven't looked to see how expensive these might be, but they would be great for
not having to guess the range to an object, like when doing an id. on a bird. Not for shooting
it, I hasten to add.
