Elephant Seal, Cape Palliser

Post by SomesBirder »

Among the countless number of New Zealand Fur Seals that I saw at Cape Palliser today, I saw what was apparently a juvenile male Elephant Seal (pictured). Its extremely large size and light grey colouring immediately made it stand out from the surrounding Fur Seals. It seemed to be struggling to move. As far as I know, they only occur on the mainland as irregular visitors.
