Hi all,

Visited Miranda yesterday with Russ Cannings, ran into Phil Hammond and Paul G on what was a pleasant day out.

Sadly there was no sign of the recently reported rarities, with the Broadbill sandpiper and Greater sand plover remaining well hidden. However we did see:
a rednecked stint,
3 Sharptailed Sandpipers,
a single pectoral sandpiper,
20 odd PGPs,
two banded Dotterels,
and a few hundred Wrybills
Along with all the other usuals.

A Curlew Sandpiper has also been present although we missed it sadly.

The stilt ponds are rather flooded at the moment, so birds are using the spit and farmers fields making viewing in the exceptionally high tides sometimes difficult.

Along with the Broad-billed, there was also the Curlew Sandpiper and four Red-necked Stints, one of which was fairly well into breeding plumage. All birds showing in good light from godwit hide from around 1730 to 1915.

Cheers, Grahame

Thanks as always for the updates Grahame!

Broad-billed showing well at 630am his morning (rising tide) along with other you mentioned. Booming bittern and calling male Brown Quail a bonus!

No sign of Pecs or Sharpies (or Aussie shelducks) this afternoon at Miranda but the Broad-billed Sandpiper was easily located roosting in the Stilt Pind at high tide (2pmish). It was with some bandies near the north end of the pond but I believe it was seen directly out in front of the stilt hide yesterday. I also heard that a juvenile Black-fronted Tern paid a visit to the shellbank area yesterday afternoon.
