Falcon on Miramar peninsula south coast

I went to Moa Point this afternoon to show one of our trappers two new trap locations. He mentioned that half an hour earlier he'd seen a falcon clutching a bird, possibly a starling or a tui, in its talons. After checking the traps, I walked around to the Rangitatau bush and was fortunate to spot the falcon. The bird flew low over scrubby bush above the coastal escarpment, then passed over a saddle below the ancient Ngati Ira pa site, calling once.
