White-throated needletail on Kapiti Island

Watched for about 35 min soaring over the ridge between Waiorua valley and Okupe Lagoon this afternoon. Seen about 1 min too late to include in our last 5 min bird count for the weekend. Although first seen from up Waiorua valley, it was later visible from the houses and beach ridge.

Awesome - thanks Colin. Be worth keeping a look out for these guys as this seems to be the time of year for them. Luckily I'm on the road from 1-21 Nov leading a tour, so will keep my eyes peeled.
