A White Heron has been found in Christchurch with a plastic ring around its neck from rubbish in a local waterway.

It has been on a while according to Andrew Crossland, and is feeding ok. I have photographed it twice in the past 2 weeks and both times it was getting fish.

An article about it appears in today's issue of The Press (possibly on Stuff too).

Due to it's location (Linwood Canal) it might be the most photographed single bird in Christchurch at the moment.
