I imagine as the impacts of climate change accellerate there will be more and more "unusual" records..

Last week there were big and active flocks of these at Mai PO marsh in HK and at the Fuzhou estuary in SE China
Worth keeping an eye open in the coming month or two

For what it's worth I got in touch with a Hawaiian bird contact who reports no increase in wintering shovelers in the Nov-Feb period. Oversummering birds (as in right now when NoShovs are breeding in the north) are rare in Hawaii though there is currently a single male on Hawai'i. Typically oversummering birds tend to be make--not surprising as Sav has pointed out.
