Actually, this is a new alternative to leg bands - easier to identify the individual from a distance or when the bird is swimming.
Always read from the top of the hat down, so this bird would be W-R-W

Poor bird looks very 'down-in-the-mouth' about the whole experience.

I think ethically it is a very good method of marking. It showed no objection to having it fitted and has not tried to remove it or shown any unusual behaviour since.
I think he even has a little happy smirk.

So, standing still for months on end is typical Blue Duck behaviour? The itinerant ones in my wallet seem to fly away only too quickly.
... I am sorely tempted to contact the SPCA to whom I wish to register a complaint. I'll tell you what's wrong with it; it's dead that's what's wrong with it. I know a dead Blue Duck when I see one, and I am looking at one right now. It's stone dead. That duck is definitely deceased. I took the liberty of examining that duck and I discovered that the only reason that it had been sitting on its rock in the first place was that it had been nailed there. That duck wouldn't move if I put four thousand volts through it; it has demised. It's not pining for Fjordland; it has passed on. This duck is no more. It has ceased to be. It's expired and gone to meet its maker. It is a late duck. It's a stiff. Bereft of life it rests in peace. If you hadn't nailed it to the rock it would be pushing up the daisies. It's run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. It is an ex-duck.
