Kaka in Birkdale Auckland
We just had a kaka fly down to our Nikau palm in our garden. I'm surprised and thought they weren't around Auckland

Re: Kaka in Birkdale Auckland
Thanks for advising of your sighting Toby.
In the Auckland region, Kaka breed at Tawharanui Regional Park, in the Hunua ranges, on Aotea/Great Barrier Island & on Huaturu/Little Barrier Island. Outside of the breeding season, Kaka disperse widely across the Auckland region & often travel south into the Waikato. Places that have recently been seen around Auckland include the Waitakere Ranges, Awhitu Peninsula, Pukekohe, Oratia, Titirangi, Waiheke Island, Cornwall Park & Birkenhead. We encourage people to log any sightings into the New Zealand Bird Atlas, as Kaka are generally rare in Auckland & we would very much like to gain a better understanding of their distribution & numbers.
Cheers
