Kākāpō return to the mainland

A huge milestone in kākāpō conservation today, with four birds being released at Maungatautari today. It's a big test – Will they stay inside? Will they boom? – but whichever way it goes, the fact that we are running out of more traditionally 'safe' places for them is a significant step.

I expect there will be plenty of this in the media over the next day or two. Here is one:
