Since 2011 the average number of native bird species counted in the capital each year has risen by 41%. The average annual counts show significant increases in Kākā by 260%, Kererū by 200%, Tūī by 85% and Pīwakawaka NZ Fantail by 49%.

Interesting that the report implicates cats as the main reason that certain species have not spread beyond the fenced sanctuary.
Certainly makes sense - hopefully will finally prompt some action around control.
