I was thinking that it would be a good idea to have the New Zealand big day on January 1 as that’s the middle of summer so that we could start in begining 2024. we could continue doing it by regions and if there’s as long as more than one person in the team, it would be a nice activity to do on the first of 1 January. What are your thoughts?

Hi Mark,

I think organising a fun nation-wide event in summer is a great idea. I don't think there would be capacity to create a specialised eBird page for it (like the Global Big Day) but we could certainly track the regions etc., and share our experiences here. Not sure how free I'll be that day but would be keen to try something in the Waikato.

I was hoping that by the beginning of the year, it would gradually grow and be similar to the Christmas bird count that they have in the states. So I'm still happy to try and promote it and see if we can gain any traction. I'm also interested to hear what other people think.
