SUMMER 2024 : The Petrel Station pelagic seabird tours, Tutukaka, New Zealand

Postby ourspot » Wed Jul 26, 2023 2:11 pm

The Petrel Station seabird tours SUMMER 2024 dates have been released (January to March) – check out the tour dates at:
www.thepetrelstation.nz

In summer all the local seabirds are around in good numbers, the Grey Noddy are back, and the NZ Storm Petrels always put on a great show with numbers peaking (up to 100 seen before!). And as the oceans warm up as summer progresses there’s the chance of semi-tropical birds making an appearance too, so there’s no telling what could turn up. There’s still some feeding workups around but they’re generally smaller and more spread out than in spring as the seabirds are targeting different prey species. Check out the 'Seabirds' and 'Trip reports' sections of The Petrel Station website to see what species have been recorded during this season.

If you’re interested in coming out on a pelagic birding tour to The Petrel Station then get in touch – it’s always a great day out birdwatching. And the best way to experience these stunning seabirds is out on the ocean, in their world :)

The tours are based offshore from Tutukaka, in Northland, New Zealand.

Cheers
Scott Brooks

One spare place has become available on each of the last 2 Petrel Station seabird tours for summer. These tours go on 11 March and 23 March 2024.

With the ocean temperatures still warm it's a great time of year to see Grey Noddy, Black-winged Petrel, New Zealand Storm Petrel, all the local summer breeding species and on recent summer tours we've also had Wedge-tailed Shearwater, White-necked Petrel and Kermadec Petrel show up as well :)

If you’re interested in coming out on a pelagic seabird tour to The Petrel Station then check out the upcoming tour dates on our website and get in touch – it’s always a great day out! Find out more at:
