Glossy Ibis

Postby Will Parsons » Thu Aug 13, 2009 2:47 pm

Had a short kayak trip this morning down the Opawa river (a slow running river flowing out of Blenheim and meets the Wairau just before the sea) and our local Glossy Ibis is still here. The photo I have shown was taken a couple of months ago on another kayak trip. This bird has a damaged foot and is easily recognised in flight as the leg hangs down. Other birds seen were Royal Spoonbill, Black, Pied and Little shag, Caspian and Black Fronted tern, Pied stilt but no sign of our local hybrid, Banded Dotterel and large flocks of Goldfinch.
Cheers Will :D

Glossy Ibis still on Hardings Road at circa 9am this morning, feeding in a temporary pond by the gate next to the road at nos 55 - 57 Harding Road. That is until a jogger went up the lane to the houses! Then it field to the back of the field and was gone an hour later then I cam back from the lagoons.
