Coo, that's amazing. Wonder if they have been there for some time? Surely that site is seldom visited?

Maybe the same birds? A count of 12 and anecdotal breeding account tie together

7 were present today, but Dylan is seeing all 12 some mornings and evenings. They were on private land not visible from the road today, but they sometimes stand on a mound visible from Somerville Rd

Still three birds present. Thanks to Dylan for showing us to them during the West Coast NZ Bird Atlas trip!

None of these records are showing up for me on the eBird App. Does anyone know why?

Re: 12 Plumed Whistling Ducks near Reefton
Records of rarities that aren’t confirmed by the eBird regional reviewer don’t show up on the species map. Some reviewers don’t confirm records until an Unusual Bird Report (UBR) is accepted by the Records Appraisal Committee. In this case one hasn’t been submitted yet so it could be months before they show up on the map.

Nor do they show on the Atlas eBird site - which [worryingly?] shows less squares with records than the main eBird site.....
I understand that the Atlas team will be trying to combine the two sets of records in due course, but as Mathieu notes its a worry if the Reefton birds do not appear on either - or is the location being kept secret?
