Aiden Kerr reports via Facebook photographing this Lesser Frigatebird yesterday off Whangapoua Beach on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula.

Paul Godolphin says he saw the bird yesterday::
"Frigate still at large between Mercury Islands and mainland. Visible an hour ago from Opito Bay flying west from a bearing between Rabbit Island and Korapuki Island, then back and out of view behind Rabbit Island in direction of Red Mercury."

The tern kept up a relentless pursuit until the frigatebird left the scene.

Would like to push the locals to keep an eye on it, we don’t want it to get stranded or go underweight down here…
