This morning, we found a Pectoral sandpiper at the Koitiata Lagoon, Turakina Beach (30 minutes south of Whanganui). It was feeding with black-fronted and banded dotterel. I only had a short lens with me, and immediately regretted I did not make the effort to bring a long lens. We were there to photograph fernbird, and did not plan on seeing a Pectoral sandpiper!

This afternoon we located two pectoral sandpiper at the Koitiata Lagoon, Turakina Beach. They were hiding in beach grasses and standing tall. A rare bird for this location.

This morning, we again found a pectoral sandpiper at the Turakina Beach, as described in previous posts. The bird was rather confiding and allowed us to get a good range of pictures. It was in the company of banded and black-fronted dotterels.
