Re: Brown Teal at Travis Wetland
I stumbled across a breeding site at Lake TeAnau a couple of years ago, if that helps.

They are wild at Riverbridge Wetland Reserve alongside the Ashburton River. I don't think many of those would have leg tags tho.

Bird was still present yesterday afternoon (3-4) The best time to see the bird seems to be early morning and late afternoon before 5. It also seems to disappear from the New pond midday and past 5 probably to sleep.

Re: Brown Teal at Travis Wetland
Hi team, an update. John Skilton, The reserve manager has checked the band numbers of the Brown teal released at Travis Wetland in May 2007. He's confirmed that the band numbers seen thus far on this new bird( S-0674 ) do not match any of those original birds. so its NOT at Travis bird. I've contacted local breeding facilities to see if this bird is known to them?

Hi folks, I've had a chat with DoC's Brown Teal folks and the band numbers as deciphered so far don't quite sit with known birds. So a big plea for people to keep looking at this bird and trying to get a better read of the band number...
cheers

Heres what I managed on Monday. Sadly couldn't get any new numbers before it entered the water.

No luck with band number this morning as bird was roosting reasonably distant and the band number seemed to be on the other side. Great to catch up with it though!

Saw the pāteke today in it's usual spot. He was by himself - not associating with any of the other duck species present.
Unfortunately also saw a pet cat hanging around the area.
