It's a pity the human race hasn't followed a similar growth trajectory.

There were thirteen present this afternoon quite close to the road. Although they were very flighty as Will said earlier.
On a side note was a pleasure meeting you finally Will!

Meet David Thomas this afternoon around 4 pm and when I taking the dog for run this evening at 7 pm there were 27 so other birds must be joining them.

Re: Glossy ibis return
I was wondering if there are any ideas suggesting that these are birds born in NZ and how was the 18/19 breeding season?
How dose it look for these birds as a breeding species in NZ? Is there enough habitat/potential/bird numbers for the population to hit that point where it will explode like the white faced herons?
Species like the Horay Greb? what was the reason for the population in the past to not take like the Australian little grebe has?

Wow that must surely be a record - would that be the most you've seen in your area Will? Are they also visiting your ponds?

Re: Glossy ibis return
The 27 is the largest group I have seen to date in this area. They are consistently dropping into a pasture paddock aproximately 300 metres from my home. I have seen them a couple of times on the Opaoa river near our house at low tide. I haven't seen on our pond yet.

Re: Glossy ibis return
The glossy ibis has definitely been breeding here with the Royal spoonbill on the nearby settling at the end of Hardings road just south of Blenheim. The first bird we saw was back in 2004 and since that time the number has slowly grown however it was not until 2015/16 that local birders realized they were breeding with the Royal spoonbill.

Re: Glossy ibis return
The glossy ibis seemed to have disappeared again and have not visited there main feeding paddock and there is no sign of them alongside the Royal spoonbill on the settling ponds.
