Heard a few (at least 2-3) shining cuckoos calling at Otari-Wilton's on Saturday. These were my first in Wellington City this year, though I hadn't been to Otari for over a month so they've probably been there for a while.

I could hear a Grey Warbler singing as I drove into our garden just now. When I got out I could hear a Shining Cuckoo in nextdoor's tortured willow tree. It was just doing the tiu tiu call but of course I couldn't see it. Then I saw it flying across the road and it began giving the full call from over there. Grey Warbler had gone quiet by then.......

Three heard in Ohinetahi Reserve earlier this afternoon, which amongst such a concert of Bellbirds and "whooshing" Pigeons was quite a treat ! :-)

Anyway, two of the calls came from a spot near rocky outcrops towards Hoon Hay Reserve, almost straight up from the corner of Titoki Track and O'Farrells Track. I'm thinking the best way to approach would be from the Summit Road, going down following the calls. The third one was near that Titoki/O'Farrell corner, to the east.

Had one in my garden (Hillcrest, Auckland) this morning with a Grey Warbler following it around? Hopefully it turns up again.

A Shining Cuckoo flew into my house window near Rangiora yesterday, stunned itself, then flew off. First I've ever seen here.
