Black-backed gull roost on North Shore?

Postby Bob Pearson » Sat Apr 04, 2020 5:28 pm

Sometimes around dusk I see a flock of black-backed gulls flying in a north-west direction over Totara Vale on Auckland's North Shore. Just curious, where are they going to roost? They are heading roughly in the direction of the Rosedale wastewater treatment pond. Is that where they are going, or are they flying on by to somewhere else?

Hello Bob
Yes, Rosedale wastewater treatment is one of their night time roosts, with gulls flying there for the north shore beaches. It's also often a large roost site for Canada Geese.
Cheers
Ian
