Kaka behaviour
I have been watching the 4 Kaka at pukekohe HS every morning for the last 4 weeks. They fly around school for about 45mins chatting and annoying the tui. One of the Kaka targets tui sitting in trees and swoops on them. The tui give chase and the Kaka chuckles and has a game of ariel tag. Repeats this a few times every morning. It looks like the Kaka is being annoying and wants to play. Also noticed that when they are ready to move on all 4 birds fly high together in small circles and constantly chattering. Then they all head off in the same direction.

Re: Kaka behaviour
A hoon of kākā, just having fun.
Last summer on Hauturu I heard a bird flying extremely fast overhead heading downhill on a couple of occasions. No calling, just the sound of feathers on the verge of being shredded. The sort of sound that makes you duck as it goes past. Eventually identified it as kākā. Just because they can?
Elsewhere it was fun to watch one flying moderately high, then fold up wings and tumble vertically and cackling, returning to normal mode just above the canopy. Absolute nutters.
